Q & A From CMP Webinar
1.
Do I have to complete and submit CEU activities every year?
No. You must complete a total of 2.0 CEUs (20 contact hours) during your 5 year cycle and submit them any time prior to your expiration date.
2.
Where can I find a list of acceptable CEUs?
You can find a list of acceptable CEUs and alternatives on our website at the following link
http://www.amcbmidwife.org/c/168/
3.
How do I report my CEUs?
You can either type a list of them or simply copy the CEU certificates and send them to our office via mail, email, or fax and we will update your records for you.
In the future you will be able to log into our website and update them directly.
4.
Will I be sent an annual bill in the mail for the maintenance fee?
Yes. Every year in January we begin mailing out the Annual Activity Forms and continue to mail them through March. The annual fee is due every year by May 31.
5.
Do I have to complete all the modules even if I am not practicing in all 3 areas?
Yes. When you were initially certified you were tested on all areas of midwifery, so even though you may not work in all areas currently, your CNM represents that you have current knowledge in all areas.
6.
Is it okay to share the modules/articles?
Yes. We encourage our certificants to complete the modules together in order to discuss the knowledge they are gaining. Feel free to share the expense of the articles as long as everyone turns in their own scantron answer sheet.
7.
If I download the module from the website, where do I get an answer sheet?
You will need to contact hvidell@amcbmidwife.org
to request a scantron answer sheet. You may request more than one at a time if you would like.
8.
When you receive the graded module report, will it specify the pharmacology credits?
Yes, the module and your pass letter both specify total credits and pharmacology credits earned.
9.
If we only have to complete one module this cycle, does it matter which one we complete? No. You can choose to complete whatever module you would like.
10.
Are certain modules due at specific times?
Each module is active for 34 months and is currently graded twice per year in April and October.
The active dates for the current modules are:
IP Module
2009 – 2011; GYN Module
2010 – 2012; AP Module 2011 – 2013. When a module expires it is removed from circulation after the October 1 grading of that year and a new, updated module will be available approximately 6 months later.
11.
Can I use the modules for CEU credit?
Each module is approved for CEU credit which can be used for state licensure or other professional requirements but cannot be used in lieu of the CEU requirement for the AMCB recertification process. Here is the breakdown: AP Module = 2 ACNM approved CEUs (20 contact hours). 3 contact hours have been designated towards Pharmacology.
IP Module = 2 ACNM approved CEUs (20 contact hours). 10 contact hours have been designated towards Pharmacology.
GYN Module = 1.5 CEUs (15 contact hours). 5 contact hours have been designated towards Pharmacology.
12.
Are the article sets available online?
No. Currently the cost for copyrights to place the article sets online is prohibitive so we can only offer them in a printed format.
13.
Does precepting for CEU credit count for all students or only midwifery students? Only midwifery students.
The purpose of accepting this activity in lieu of CEUs is to encourage as many midwives as possible to contribute to the education of midwifery students.
14.
How do I update my address with the AMCB office?
You can either call us at 410-694-9424 or 866-366-9632 or send an email to Michael Hornbuckle at arochlin@amcbmidwife.org
15.
Will my certificate be reissued automatically or do I have to do something to make that happen?
During the year that your certification expires, we will begin sending out new certificates in February and continue throughout the year sending them out as certificants complete their requirements.
16.
Do I need to retake the certification examination? No. As long as you maintain your certification by completing your modules and CEUs every cycle, there is no need to retake the initial certification examination.
17.
What are the fees for recertification?
There is an annual activity fee of $65. This fee includes all three modules.
You may purchase a book of articles for each module for an additional $65.
18.
Do you have to be practicing in order to maintain your certification?
There is no practice requirement. Simply maintain your certification by completing the required modules and CEUs and paying your annual maintenance fee.
