Modules

The Certificate Maintenance Modules address current practice for the full scope of midwifery practice, and encourage midwives to incorporate evidence based care into their practice. One module must be completed in EACH of the three areas of practice: Antepartum and Primary Care; Intrapartum, Postpartum, and Newborn; and Gynecologic, Sexual, Reproductive, and Primary Care. Each module contains references and learning objectives from 15-20 articles, with an open book multiple choice test.

You are only allowed to complete the same version of a module three times. After three failed attempts you must then successfully complete a new version of the same subject module. If you do not successfully complete a module in each of the three areas of practice you will NOT be eligible for recertification.

Modules are available for completion online through the AMCB portal at any time for an instant result. Click here to sign into the portal.

A new module is developed each year and is active for 34 months. The module is then closed for participation on December 15th during its third year. In a five year cycle, at least two versions of each practice area (Antepartum and Primary Care; Intrapartum, Postpartum, and Newborn; and Gynecologic, Sexual, Reproductive, and Primary Care) will be available.

If you are in the last year of your certification cycle, all modules must be completed before December 15th.

We are always looking for topics for the modules and encourage you to email AMCB Headquarters if you have ideas for any of the three practice areas. Also, click here, if you are interested in becoming a member of the Certificate Maintenance Committee.

Online Submission and Grading
Completing modules online will allow you to receive your results instantly upon submission of your answers. Please be aware that module results are only available for modules completed within your current certification cycle. Once you recertify and begin a new certification cycle, module results from the previous cycle are no longer accessible from your online portal. Please be sure to print all module results before completing the Recertification Application. If you have not already done so, please call our office to set up a username and password for this option. This option is free.

Please note that online completion is not available for a module that has been previously completed within your cycle. Online grading is only available for your required modules (1 AP Module; 1 IP Module; 1 GYN Module).
